- Retrieve document file for Proofing/Editing (we accept: doc, docx, indd)
- Have Client Specify Book size (ex: 5.5 x 8.5, 6 x 9, etc.)
- Specify cover stock, interior stock, number of images to add to book, color of ink and quantity
- Layout & Design Interior Pages (please specify font style and size for the interior pages).

- VPC/MAYS Consults on Cover Design or Client Submits a Camera Ready File
- Round 1 Proof – Ensure Design/Layout Style is what client wants
- Round 2 Proof – Review grammar, and that all Names, Dates and Numbers and correct, along with Proper spelling of important spelling and chronicle dates.
- Proof 3 – Client Signs a Production Form approving order is error free and ready for print (disclaimer will be included)
- VPC/MCS Assigns a ISBN and Bar Code and Application (customer fills out during Final proofing process) for book to registered in the Library of Congress
- VPC/MCS Submits Copyright to U.S. Copyright Office (process takes 6-7 months (as of December 2017)
- Client approves color of paper & its weight, printing process (1, 2 or full color), reconfirm size of book, final page count, cover stock and coating, finishing: perfect bound, saddle stitch or case bound (with case bound orders, please specify color of cloth and color of foil imprint), number of books
- VPC/MCS Starts Print Production (orders can take anywhere from 7 days to 28)
- VPC/MCS Creates e-book (upon client request) and assist with getting on the digital platform to market and sell e-book.
- MCS Assist in Book Launch, Marketing Campaigns and getting on Amazon, Local and Nationwide Bookstores. (ask a chief consultant for more details.
- Use a font that is easy to read.
- Use an 11pt size font or larger.
- Use 1.5 lines spacing so paragraphs in the book are easy to read.
- An open book has a left-hand page and a right-hand page. Your title page should be a right-hand page. Start chapters on the right-hand side as well.
- Number the pages of your book.
-Japanese Binding – for soft and hard covers, expose or covered spines, various string colors – can mix and match paper weights, coating and colors sheets.
-Box Stitch Binding – stitching is an added design to books character. – Side Sewing -Button and Tie -Accordion Bound Books – each page of the book is one continuous sheet (suggested sheet 80lb txt -10pt cover. -Eyelets – (permanent bound) buttons elastic bands or metal bolts (colors, dimensions and thickness can vary) maximum thickness of book /8” -Chicago Screws (copper, bronze or steele) – pipe like screw that holds book together. Round, flat or domed (sheets can be added and subtracted) -Hubbed Spine – raised, horizontal bands/ribs/ridges on the outside spine of a case bound book. -Exposed Board Covers
-Expose Smythe (no cover on the spine) – all you see are the sections, thread and glue -Acco Fasteners – to pieces of metal drilled into paper to hold book together.

- Headbands (are the ribbon that’s inserted in the spine and is shown on the top and bottom
- Square-backed or round-backed spines
- Dusk Jackets give the book an esthetic and artistic appeal
- Various Colours of Thread in one book
- Mylar Tabs (printed on 6pt or thicker stock)
- Edge Painting/Book Staining
- Book Boxes/Boxed Books
- Metal Corners on Books – protects corners from curling or bending, distinctive, increases the value of product (colors: silver, black, brown, orange and gold) – square or rounded, shiny, etched, matted or embossed.
- 1 Color or Graphics (full color) coordinated end papers (reference Casebound Books)
- Sunken labels/Embossed position (glued into the cover of case bound books)
- Edge Cut books – open edges of a book that die-cut or roughed (rough sawed)– sawn in a pile 3 or 4 inches high), slit or nicked
- Book binding materials can vary – if your imagination and budget permit
